What exactly is the German School of Geneva?
The German School of Geneva offers top-tier outstanding education for students aged 3 to 18. Endorsed by the Federal Republic of Germany, it is part of a global network of 136 German schools abroad. Students follow the German curriculum, enriched with a strong local focus, and prepare for the Deutsches Internationales Abitur, which opens the doors to the world’s top universities. In a caring and international environment, the school promotes academic excellence, curiosity, and intercultural openness. With its human scale, it provides personalized support to each student.
Leadership team
The pedagogical leadership of the German School of Geneva ensures the quality of teaching and the continuity of the students’ school career from kindergarten to the Abitur. It reports to the headmaster, who is seconded by the Federal Republic of Germany. The career path is monitored and supported by the department heads (kindergarten/preschool, primary school, afternoon programme, language school). They are each responsible for implementing the educational objectives in their area of responsibility.
Administrative team
Our administration team supports our educational work by ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the school. It is responsible for central areas such as finance, human resources, facilities management, canteen, IT, public relations and institutional relations with the German and local authorities
School Council
Governing body of the German School of Geneva is the Verein für deutschen Schulunterricht, a non-profit organization under Swiss law. It is led by a seven-member honorary elected board, which assumes legal and financial responsibility. It oversees the day-to-day operations. The Parents’ Council serves as an important bridge between families and the school and is actively involved in school life. The Student Council gives students a strong voice and the opportunity to actively shape school life.

Teaching staff
The German School of Geneva employs over 90 dedicated professionals – including around 50 teachers, 30 educators and assistants as well as eight administrative and technical staff. Eight teachers, including the headmaster, are seconded from the Federal Republic of Germany. Together, they form a competent, well-coordinated and multicultural team that is committed to providing high-quality education in a motivating day to day learning atmosphere.

The network of German schools abroad includes 136 schools funded by the Federal Republic of Germany. Represented on all continents, these schools offer multilingual, intercultural and high-quality teaching. They are coordinated by the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) and enable students to acquire internationally recognised German qualifications. They promote understanding between cultures and convey Germany’s educational and democratic values in an open and constantly changing international environment.
