Early years

Welcome to the kindergarden and pre-school

Our early years section welcomes children aged 3 to 6 years. In kindergarten, the children grow at their own pace and discover the world through play. Whether in the classroom, the garden or during excursions, children observe, experiment and explore – and learn through their own discoveries. They sing, paint, craft, invent and express themselves freely in a variety of creative activities. Whatever the weather, they play outside and experience nature. Every day is an adventure that strengthens their love of learning. The transition to school takes place gently as part of the pre-school programme (5-6 years), with targeted support for language, cognitive and social skills.

In the early years section, we accompany the children on their first steps into the world of schooling.
We encourage them to discover, try things out and interact with each other – in a safe and loving environment that respects their individual rhythm and needs. Through play, creativity and diverse experiences, they develop curiosity, self-confidence and a love for learning. A lively and balanced approach that supports them as they grow and lays the foundation for a happy time at school.

A typical day in the kindergarden & pre-school

So, what does a day at the DSG kindergarten and pre-school look like?
Here, we present a typical day. Turn up the volume so you don’t miss a thing!

Does my child have to speak German or French to be enrolled?

No, prior knowledge of German or French is not required. The learning is acquired naturally in everyday school life through lessons, activities and social interactions.
Around 70% of lessons are taught in German and around 30% in French.

Flexible childcare times

Attendance times are flexible: children can be enrolled either for mornings only (arrival between 7:45 and 8:30 a.m.) or for the full day.
Afternoon pick-up times can take place, depending on the needs of the families, at 1:15 p.m., 4:30 p.m., or 5:30 p.m.
However, pick-up times remain flexible and can be arranged individually with the educators.

Is my child required to do an afternoon nap?

An optional rest period is offered after lunch in a quiet, comfortable room. Each child can participate according to his or her needs.

What do the children eat in the afternoon?

Lunch is a sociable time when the children share a meal prepared on site by our in-house chef. Made with fresh, seasonal produce, it is balanced and adapted to the children’s nutritional needs.

How are the groups organized?

The children are divided into three groups, each supervised by a teacher and an assistant (teacher:child ratio 1:10).
