February 11–13: Simulation of the United Nations General Assembly

Our Students’ United Nations (SUN) club took part in the simulation of the United Nations General Assembly at the Centre International de Conférences Genève:

Ten Grade 11 students formed five delegations, each representing an assigned country. As part of the political simulation conference “Assemblée Générale,” they stepped into the role of diplomats and passionately debated current global issues from the perspective of their respective states. In doing so, they closely simulated the work and procedures of the United Nations.

Preparation began well in advance within the SUN club. Students first familiarized themselves thoroughly with their assigned country and then drafted a resolution on a contemporary topic of their choice, ranging from human rights and international security to environmental and development issues.

After submitting their resolutions, all participants prepared for the “Commissions de Rédaction,” held in November at the University of Geneva. Presentations were carefully developed and rehearsed, as this stage is decisive: out of around 400 participants, only selected delegations are chosen to present their topic at the General Assembly in February. By presenting in various lecture halls, our students gained their first insight into the formal procedures and expectations of an international conference.

Following the model of the real United Nations, our students represented their assigned countries with great commitment and professionalism. They delivered speeches, engaged in negotiations, and proposed amendments in a spirit of cooperation and constructive dialogue.

Participation in the SUN club was far more than an academic exercise. It offered students the opportunity to strengthen their public speaking skills, develop diplomatic awareness, and experience international relations firsthand. We are proud of their dedication and already look forward to the next Assemblée Générale.
